The Forefront of Adult Stem Cell-Based Therapy for Alzheimer’s
April 11, 2014November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and is dedicated to raising the awareness of this neurodegenerative disorder. Alzheimer’s currently affects 5 million people in the US and 35 million across the globe, and due to aging populations, this number is growing rapidly.
Currently pharmacological treatments only manage symptoms and offer no cure for the disease. Alternatively, adult stem cells have shown great promise to potentially replace lost or support damaged brain cells due to their remarkable ability of differentiating into many cell types.
