It’s been not quite a year since Barbara received her stem cell treatment for Parkinson’s disease, and she couldn’t be happier. At the time of her treatment, in her own words, she “was desperate for anything!”
Several years earlier, Barbara had begun to experience symptoms that were physically challenging, such as trembling in her arms and difficulty walking. She was referred to a physical therapist, but after a couple of years and symptoms worsening, she was then sent to another. The second physical therapist immediately noticed the loss of strength in her arms and hands and suggested she consult with a neurologist who, after a few tests, diagnosed Barbara with Parkinson’s disease.
For two years after that, Barbara suffered from the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. She barely had use of her right hand, rendering her unable to write anymore, and had great difficulty walking, often shuffling and dragging her leg. Perhaps what drove her and her family to look for an effective treatment for Parkinson’s was the fact that the symptoms become so bad that “holding my little grandchildren became quite a job,” as Barbara says in her post-stem cell treatment video with great sadness in her voice.
In April of 2011, just before her 62nd birthday, Barbara underwent an adipose-derived adult stem cell treatment. When asked if she had any apprehension about the treatment, she responds, “Well, I was desperate, and I couldn’t see how it could do any harm if it was just taking my own stem cells and then receiving them back again. I figured it might not help, but it couldn’t hurt.”
Not quite a year later, Barbara reports that her energy level is much higher, she is sleeping better and most of the Parkinson’s symptoms have greatly improved. This, in turn, has helped her mood a great deal. The feelings of hopelessness and despair and exhaustion from dealing with the symptoms of Parkinson’s had lifted and she felt a renewed interest in life.
Her words of advice to others who are suffering from severe and debilitating medical conditions that stem cell treatments could help: “Don’t hesitate. Do whatever it takes to get a stem cell treatment done. It’s a very easy, painless experience, you are awake the whole time, and the people who do the treatments are very compassionate and helpful.”
